Phuket car hire: how much does it cost to travel to other provinces
When renting a car in Phuket, you can include options for travelling to other provinces in your booking:
- Southern provinces – Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi mainland;
- Central provinces – Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin;
- Northern provinces – Chiang Mai;
- Phangan and Samui islands.
If you have not added this option to your booking, you cannot travel outside of Phuket with a hire car. Exit permits can be either paid or free, depending on the car and the region.

Conditions and documents for car hire in Phuket
The conditions for car hire in Phuket are as follows:
- the renter must be over 18 years of age and must have at least 1 year of driving experience;
- the largest selection of cars is available to drivers who are over 21 years of age and have at least 2 years of driving experience.
To rent a car you will need certain documents, namely:

Although formally an international driving licence is not required in Thailand, in practice there may be a situation when local law enforcement authorities require it. Therefore, we recommend that you obtain an International Driving Licence in advance to avoid potential problems.
Paying for car hire and deposit
Renting a car in Phuket always requires a deposit – car hire without a deposit is not common here. Russian bank cards do not work in Phuket, but there are many alternative deposit solutions:
- cash (Thai baht),
- cryptocurrency and stablecoins,
- foreign bank cards – credit and debit.
- To book a car, you need to pay a deposit – 15-20% of the rental amount. You can make an advance payment on the website using a bank card.
The balance of the amount must be paid when you pick up the car in Phuket – the same methods are accepted as for making a deposit.
